Event Details

The goal of the project  'u' is to create and perform an authentic Klingon Opera, here on earth, with a human cast. In order to be able to perform an authentic Klingon opera, I first need to establish  its musical system, the tradition of themes and narrative modes, the instruments, the musicians' techniques, and the visual/theatrical interpretation.

How real can something become that stems from fiction? How far can our suspension of disbelief go? It is my wish to explore this border area between belief and reason, between fiction and fact to find the point they achieve equality. This project gives me the chance to shape a large part of the cultural content of an existing fictitious culture and thus to define the authenticity of a part of the Klingon world.

The Klingon Terran Research Ensemble is a musical/theatrical ensemble dedcated to study and performance of Klingon music. The ensemble is affilated to the ArtScience department of the Royal Conservatoire and resides at the Zeebelt theater in The Hague, the Netherlands. The project strives to learn the ways of Klingon music through theory and practical application. The Klingon have a rich musical culture that until now has been largely overlooked by the musical establishment. The KTRE wish to bring this unique musical culture to the attention of (inter)national audiences and contribute to its legacy.
